PRODUCE SAFETY AND SECURITY INTERNATIONAL PROVIDES A FOOD SAFE PROCESS SOLUTION FOR REMOVAL OF E.coli 0157:H7 FROM FRESH SPINACH AND LETTUCE
Lewisville, TX - (WORLD STOCK WIRE) - March 26, 2008 -- Produce Safety and Security International, Inc. (OTC: PRSF) today announces the company provides a food safe process with third party certification and traceability that addresses challenges of spinach processing. The Produce Safety and Security cost effective proactive process provides the removal of food-borne illness pathogens. University of Georgia researcher Mike Doyle said that his research is pointing to a new possible culprit in the contamination of fresh-cut produce: the coring knives used to cut and core lettuce in the fields during harvesting.
At the Food Safety & Security Summit held March 19, Dr. Doyle said that preliminary research is showing that the process of dipping knives into contaminated soil when cutting and coring lettuce heads in the fields may push bacteria into the lettuce. Why this testing wasnt performed at the operational level where the issues occur, but instead in some laboratory 2,500 miles away from the production area, is unknown.
The Produce Safety and Security International food-safe process provides the common sense cost-effective approach for the solution to issues causing the entire food industry billions of dollars, sickness and death that could be prevented by removal of cross contamination, proper handling of the product at growing, harvest, post-harvest process, packaging, storage, temperature requirement compatibility, transportation delivery to the retail user and traceability program.
The good news is the use of the Produce Safety and Security cost-effective common sense approach that provides effective removal of pathogens for the entire food chain from the growing harvest, packaging, storage, transportation, retail level and consumer. I have some major concerns about why the industry needs grants since this research was done many years ago and is in the Good Agricultural Practices for the fresh processed foods industry. These issues were also addressed in the FDA manual. The lack of attention, failure to perform traceability, lack of food-safe programs inspection and failure to provide a cost- effective process has cost the industry, retail, and consumer billions of dollars just by lack of follow through. These issues were self-inflicted by all involved however, this is not the first time, the problems continue with no solutions coming from the congressional sub-committees and the governmental agencies
just finger pointing with no resolution. It amazes me when a cost effective process is available to save lives, reduce illness, provide a respectable return to all involved, and provide employment at all levels with pride of accomplishment. We as an industry sure fall short of what America is all about causing death by lack of regulation and enforcing the regulations already on the books, stated Clarence W. Karney, CEO of Produce Safety and Security International Inc.
