PRODUCE SAFETY AND SECURITY INTERNATIONAL PROVIDES A COST EFFECTIVE FOOD SAFE PROCESS SOLUTION TO PROTECT THE CONSUMER, RETAILER, SHIPPER, IMPORTER AND THE ENTIRE FOOD CHAIN
Lewisville, TX - (WORLD STOCK WIRE) - March 31, 2008 -- Produce Safety and Security International, Inc. (Pink Sheets: PRSF) today announces the Company provides a cost effective and proven food safe process with certification and traceability that addresses challenges of produce, seafood, meat, poultry, dairy, deli, and catering services.
Produce Safety and Security cost effective, pro-active process provides for the removal of food-borne illness pathogens and the removal of contamination from harvest, packing, cooling, storage, shipping, distribution receipt, shipping to the retail store level and when the consumer purchases the product.
Why was testing not performed at the Bounty Fresh LLC facility prior to shipment?
Recalls are a reactive approach to issues that should never have occurred. The cantaloupes from the Honduran grower/packer Agropecuaria Montelibano have been an FDA issue for several days. Current information is that cantaloupes from this company are linked to a Salmonella Litchfield outbreak in the U.S. and Canada. This recalled product has been distributed nationwide to wholesalers and grocers. Whole cantaloupe fruits subject to this recall were sold in boxes marked with the following text: "Cantaloupe, Chestnut Hill Farms (3 count) or "Perfect Melon" (one count), Produce of Honduras, Grown, Packed and Shipped by Agropecuaria Montelibano, San Lorenzo, Valle, Honduras." All boxes also contain the Chestnut Hill Farms logo. To date, the FDA has received reports of 50 illnesses in 16 states and nine illnesses in Canada linked to the consumption of cantaloupes. No deaths have been reported; however, 14 people have been hospitalized. The states are Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin.
The good news is if any one of these companies in the food chain would have used Produce Safety and Security cost effective common sense approach that provides effective removal of pathogens, these issues should have not occurred. I have some major concerns about why the industry needs to provide three (3) years of research when we as an industry are aware what issues are causing illness or death, that is, by lack of enforcing the regulations already on the books. It is wonderful to tell the industry these manufacturers have all these products that will cure all; however, if you dont provide a process to monitor the cure, we, as an industry, will still have the same issues, stated Clarence W. Karney, CEO of Produce Safety and Security International Inc.
