Intrinsyc Launches RapidRIL and Announces First Licensee
Vancouver, BC - (WORLD STOCK WIRE) - August 14, 2008 -- Intrinsyc Software International, Inc. (TSX: ICS), a global wireless software solutions provider, today announced the launch and first customer of RapidRIL, the radio interface layer technology developed by Intrinsyc. InterDigital, Inc., a leading developer of advanced mobile broadband modem solutions, through its operating subsidiary InterDigital Communications, LLC has licensed RapidRIL to support its SlimChip Reference Platform for Windows Mobile devices. Financial terms of the engagement were not disclosed.
As the market continues to advance beyond existing technologies, the increased complexity to implement the radio network functionality, or the radio interface layer, in handheld devices can extend development time. Optimized for second and third generation (2.5G/3G) Windows Mobile handsets, RapidRIL will allow InterDigital to deliver a complete, pre-integrated telephony solution with its SlimChip Reference Platform. This eases implementation efforts for its customers, reducing time-to-market.
InterDigital chose Intrinsyc for this project because of its established reputation in the industry for Windows Mobile software integration and deep telephony experience, said Mike W. Regensburg, Vice President of Product Management, InterDigital. Because RapidRIL is modular, our OEM customers can integrate the SlimChip broadband modem onto their Windows Mobile devices faster and more easily, without the need to optimize or rewrite a lot of code.
Leveraging our wireless expertise, we developed RapidRIL to alleviate the challenges of integrating the radio network functionality for next generation devices, said Tracy Rees, VP and GM of Global Engineering Operations, Intrinsyc. Through RapidRIL and Intrinsycs award-winning wireless engineering services, we have provided a complete telephony solution for Windows Mobile that supports both InterDigitals current and future modem implementations with minimal effort.
RapidRIL delivers successive time and cost savings as well as flexibility by allowing developers to work on different aspects of the radio interface layer simultaneously and by extending feature sets and adapting different handset architectures without in-depth recoding. Additionally, RapidRIL supports multiple control and data channels that can be customized for a specific handset and used to enable various features with minimal code rewrite. Its key benefits include: Ability to support multiple radio devices and SIM devices; Potential to isolate more time-consuming functions, thereby improving the user experience; and Ability to add simple commands to enable features such as location-based services.
